Le Syndrome d'Apnées Obstructives du Sommeil (SAOS)

Le syndrome des apnées obstructives du sommeil (SAOS) est le plus fréquent des troubles respiratoires du sommeil. Chez les personnes porteuses de trisomie 21, le SAOS a une plus grande prévalence et sévérité que dans la population générale, tant chez l’enfant que chez l’adulte chez qui il va atteindre plus de 3 personnes sur 4.

 

Précoce, il est diagnostiqué avant l’âge de 5 ans dans 50% des cas avec une prévalence particulièrement élevée chez les nourrissons de moins de 6 mois. Non traité, le SAOS est la cause d’une importante morbidité, cardio et cérébro-vasculaire, métabolique et neurocognitive, et d’une altération de la qualité de vie, rendant essentiel d’en faire le diagnostic le plus précocement possible.
