El síndrome de apnea obstructiva del sueño (SAOS)

El síndrome de apnea obstructiva del sueño (SAOS) es el más frecuente de problemas respiratorios del sueño.

 

En personas con trisomía 21, el SAOS tiene una prevalencia y severidad mayores que en la población general, tanto en niños/as como adultos que le afectará a 3 de cada 4 personas.

 

Se diagnostica antes de la edad de 5 años en el 50% de los casos con una prevalencia particularmente elevada en bebés de menos de 6 meses. No tratado, el SAOS es causa de una importante morbilidad, cardio y cerebro-vascular, metabólica y neurocognitiva, y una alteración de la calidad de vida, siendo esencial diagnosticarlo lo antes posible.
