Patologías no infecciosas del pulmón y de las vías aéreas inferiores

Presentes desde la vida fetal, las anomalías de los alveolos, de la circulación pulmonar y bronquial y del aparato mucociliar, son casi constantes en las personas con trisomía 21. Si la expresión clínica de estas anomalías es variable y a menudo asintomática, son sin embargo un factor de riesgo importante por el desarrollo de una hipertensión arterial pulmonar o de un edema pulmonar relacionado con la altitud. Más raras y a menudo descubiertas de forma fortuita, las anomalías bronquiales son así mismo más frecuentes que en la población neurotípica. Para terminar, hay que saber que aunque los episodios de respiración sibilantes son frecuentes no se relacionan mayoritariamente con un asma atópico.
