OPHTHALMOLOGICAL PATHOLOGIES
The frequency of visual impairment in adults and children with Down’s syndrome is explained by the high prevalence of refractive disorders (hypermetropia, myopia, astigmatism, etc.), the presence of accommodation disorders (present in 2 to 3 cases out of 4 in the Down’s syndrome population) and the existence of a significant drop in visual acuity from childhood onwards.
Dr. Hervé Walti, pediatrician at the Institut Jérôme Lejeune, talks to us about this in the video and the accompanying data sheet, making up the third part of our chapter dedicated to ophthalmological pathologies in people with trisomy 21.
